DESCRIPTION
RESPONSIBLE FOR DENMARK’S BUILT HERITAGE
Drawing on Søren Jensen’s extensive expertise in restoration, refurbishment, fire engineering and the maintenance of historic buildings, we have, in collaboration with ERIK Arkitekter, been appointed as Royal Building Inspectors under Inspectorate 4 for the Agency for Culture and Palaces and other owners of listed properties since 2020.
Under the framework agreement, we have carried out a wide range of projects at institutions and heritage sites including the National Museum of Denmark, Sorø Academy, Prince’s Palace, Ny Vestergade, Brede Works, the Danish War Museum, the Open Air Museum, the Royal Danish Library, Slotsholmen, Nørre Allé and Karen Blixen’s Square.
Selected examples of our work include:
DEVELOPING CONCEPTS FOR THE CULTURAL HERITAGE SECTOR
As part of the ambitious National Museum 2030 strategy, Søren Jensen contributed to the development of a conceptual design proposal for new office facilities for National Museum staff. A key focus was maintaining a respectful approach to introducing modern office environments within listed and historically significant buildings.
UNDERPINNING OF LISTED BUILDINGS
Søren Jensen carried out preliminary investigations, developed the construction design and supervised the implementation of piling works at the listed industrial heritage site of Brede Works, located along the Mølleå River.
The project demonstrates the complexity of underpinning a listed building situated within a river environment, where the preservation of historical value, structural integrity and environmental considerations must be carefully balanced.
REFURBISHMENT OF A HISTORIC ROOF STRUCTURE
Søren Jensen has also been involved in a number of refurbishment and maintenance projects at Brede Works. One example is the restoration of the roof trusses in the listed residential building known as Den Lange Længe, where traditional scarf joints were introduced to repair timber decay and preserve the original construction principles.
BUILDING AND TECHNICAL CONDITION SURVEYS
Søren Jensen’s specialist knowledge of restoring and maintaining historic buildings has led to the completion of building and technical condition surveys at sites including Brede Works.
Our contribution has provided valuable insights and recommendations to help ensure that historic buildings remain in good condition and continue to preserve their cultural and architectural significance for years to come.
One example includes preliminary investigations of concrete bridges along the Mølleå River, where visual 3D inspections were carried out from a timber raft on the water.
