DESCRIPTION
CONNECTING THE NEW AND THE EXISTING
SHIP is a combined Living and Working development of international standard, with a unique location at the transition between the new district of Aarhus Ø and the existing environment around the wooden ship harbour and marina.
The E-shaped building rises 5 storeys and comprises approximately 200 owner-occupied apartments, as well as 3,500 m² Working space on the ground floor. Large, zigzagging balconies with significant cantilevers and long spans create a varied and light architectural expression.
The location close to the harbour is utilised for a seawater-based cooling and heating system, where energy from seawater is used via heat pumps to heat both Living and Working areas, and to provide cooling for the Working areas.
The project replaces a previously initiated development and is therefore designed on a partially established pile foundation and a sheet-piled basement structure along the outer perimeter.
