DESCRIPTION
PLAY, LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT
Vrå School and Children's House is a unique gathering place for learning, culture, sport and social life for all age groups — housing a primary school, a daycare institution and a cultural centre with library, sports hall and outdoor activity landscape.
The school accommodates 462 pupils, the daycare 164 children, and movement and sport are central to both — the school is DGI-certified as a sports school and the nursery as a movement nursery.
AWARD-WINNING DESIGN PROCESS
User involvement and workshops were a major part of the early phases, ensuring the building meets the needs of pupils, staff and the local community.
Throughout the design process, Søren Jensen applied LCA and LCC as guiding parameters for the school's design — with circular and sustainable thinking at the core.
The result is a school that has received DGNB certification to both Gold and Diamond standard. In 2022 the Vrå Children's and Cultural House was named School of the Year, and in 2023 it received the Hjørring Municipality Architecture Award.
